A man at the edge of a pool, the start of a six month fasting journey

Day 1 — 5th March 2026

Today I did it. All of it.

I didn’t eat until 1pm. Not because I couldn’t — because I chose not to. That’s the difference.

Before the pool I had one banana. That was it. I went to swim on one banana and it was fine.

20 lengths. 33 metre pool. 14 minutes 50 seconds. My shoulder was a bit sore from last week so I took it easy. Didn’t push it. That was the right call — this is a six month plan, not a single session.

Then 13 minutes in the sauna. Then a cold shower to finish.

I do this regularly. But today it felt different. Today it was part of something.

After the swim — 4 boiled eggs, two small slices of brown toast. Then early evening, a lamb donner and chicken shish and chips, shared with my wife and daughter. Enjoyed every bit of it. No guilt. It goes in the log. That’s the deal.

How did I feel today? I felt good. Calm. Excited. Empowered.

Like I had a shield.

That’s the best way I can describe it. The word STOP written on my left hand — the hand that reaches — felt like armour walking around today. Something to hold up against the adverts, the shop aisles, the habits of 32 years.

Day 1 is done. The shield held.
